The Male Gaze further research

The Male Gaze further research and 'The Female Gaze'

Although sometimes described as the 'Male Gaze' Mulvey's concept is more accurately described as a heterosexual, masculine gaze.
An example of the Male Gaze is, 'The postman always rings twice' (1946) which includes a famous amount of the Male Gaze.
Theorist Jonathon Schroeder (1998) 'to gaze implies more than to look at - it signifies a psychological relationship of power, in which the gazer is superior to the object of the gaze'
Some theorists have also noted the sexualizing of the female body even in situations where female sexiness has nothing to do with the product being advertised.
The gaze can also be directed to members of the same gender for several reasons, not all being sexual, such as in comparison of body image or in clothing.

The 'Female Gaze'

The Female Gaze is a feminist theoretical term representing the gaze of the female viewer. It is a response to Laura Mulvey's term, the 'Male Gaze' which represents the Gaze of the male viewer, the male character, and the male creator of the video.
The Female Gaze looks at three viewpoints:
1.The individual filming
2.The characters within the video
3.The spectator
These viewpoints also concern Mulvey's Male Gaze, however focuses instead on females.
