The Big Issue Cover Analysis
The Big issue magazines from 2017 all are full of colour to draw the audiences' attention in to buy the magazine, each magazine is about recent and popular events/people that are well known at the current time, Kasabian for example are a popular English rock band, where many people of different age groups would be interested in buying a magazine about him or with information about him in it. Beauty and the beast is an example of a popular re-make of the Disney cartoon that many people were excited about the release. Each of the magazines are labelled with the big issue stamp, and are colour co-ordinated to the magazine, and giving extra emphasis to the title, for example; the big issue is red as well as the Kasabian writing which works better and stands out more than if the big issue stamp was black or white.
The Killers issue of the magazine looks as though the camera was placed in front of a green screen, the background chosen is appropriate to the costume and the facial expression of one of the killer members, 'bringing sexy back' is the theme of the magazine and the member seems to be attempting to act 'sexy', the magazine with this title would appeal to ages of approximately 12-25. The typography of the magazine appeals to the audience, 'music special' is written along with the background which is aesthetically pleasing and may draw in the audience. The lighting of the magazine makes the person on the front stand out, the pink and grey background contrasts his outfit and skin tone which makes the magazine look brighter and full of life, the 'killers' stands out the most in bright yellow typography which tells the audience the main focus of the magazine. The camera shot is looking upwards at the killer member, which fits with the theme of the magazine and is a better shot than if the camera was face on, this is because the angle is more suited and more interesting than a simple photo which could have been take by anyone rather than a professional.
The Kasabian big issue magazine is a lot different to the killers issue, the background is black and dark, and the main focus of the magazine is his face, the dark background may have been used because Kasabian is a rock band which tends to be represented as a dark genre of music, meaning the cover would appeal to Kasabian and rock lovers, attracting the right audience market. The camera shot of the guy in the picture is face on, this makes the cover more intense and interesting the reader to buy the magazine, the typography is simple but suitable for the band as they use that typography for their own music. The text is directly in the middle of the magazine, over his nose, standing out in bright red and as the background is dark, it immediately draws the audiences' attention to the band. The magazine seems to be fairly empty as their is no extra text or any new information about Kasabian, which may have purposely been used so the audience buys the magazine to read more.
The beauty and the beast cover is used with a green screen background to create the image of the castle. Emma Watson (playing Belle) is wearing a yellow dress with a red rose, she stands out compared to the monochrome background which may have been done purposely because she is the main character, and loved by most of the beauty and the beast audience. The camera shot is an angled picture of Belle, placed so the castle behind can be scene, adding an extra interest to the cover which may attract the audience. The typography is quite elegant and all used in the font that is used in the beauty and the beast film. The lighting of the picture makes Belle look golden, as though she is a prize possession, which in the film, she is, the colour of Belle's dress contrasts the background, this could imply that Belle is the light in the dark city.
