Close The Loop- shot textual analysis
This particular scene starts with a close up shot of the women's face and then changes to the wide shot of all three people on the bed. This is a choice the editor made intentionally to show the focus is of the women wearing the short skirt. The high-angled shot is used to show all three of the people in the shot, the other two being younger people which may have been used intentionally to add emphasis onto the elderly women wearing the short skirt which is typically worn by younger people. The younger people in the shot are looking up to the women, implying that she is an authorized person of importance who the younger people look up to 'breaking the rules' and wearing a short skirt. Non-diegetic voice-over is used in this shot, 'wear short skirts after 40' to narrate what's going on in the shot and to emphasise a higher class women wearing what she wants and is looking happy about it.
This low-angled shot is used for this scene to show the authority of the person in the shot, the camera is looking up to her as she is above others. This scene shows that H&M encourage everyone to express themselves in the ways they please. This women is in an every-day shop, not necessarily dressing up for anything special which emphasizes that everyone is free to dress how they chose to any sort of occasion.
The caption for this shot is, 'dress like a man' which is ironic as the person dressing like a man is a woman. The woman looks confident in the shot and happy with the way she is dressed and how she looks, the turn in the shot emphasizes the confidence of the character, inspiring the audience to mirror the self- confidence that is shown in the shot.
The caption, 'stand out, blend in' for these shots are relevant as different colours stand out on their own however they blend in when next to other colours, the point of this shot is to emphasize that wearing different colours is a fashion choice that helps expressing yourself. The, 'blend in' shows that wearing loads of different colours is blending in as no two people wear the same things or express themsleves in the same ways.
