Minecraft is a 3D sandbox game that has no official goal to accomplish, however has an achievement system. It allows players to have a large amount of freedom for how they want to play the game. It is a game where players dig (mine) and build (craft) different 3D blocks within a large world of varying terrain and habitats to explore. Minecraft is often referred to as a toy. Like the digital equivalent of legos as the digital cubes can be made and built into anything of your choice. Minecraft has two modes, creative mode and survival mode; survival mode is the more traditional mode where you start in a randomly generated world where you have to collect the supplies required to survive. Creative mode allows the player to create a world with infinate possibilities. You can customise how large you want the mountains to be, the lakes, oceans etc. Minecraft is only one game but has three versions depending on the device it is played on: computer (MAC or PC), a gaming console (PlayStation, Xbox) and the final edition is a pocket edition for mobile devices.

To promote the game further, he used discounts, time pressure and experiments with different revenue models. Notch chose the title of the game in a team brainstorm so other could offer input, by doing this it should increase the atrraction for potential buyers. Originally, minecraft was a simple game that had limited controls and abilities for example; the characters could not run, they could only really place and break blocks. The players felt the game was too slow without running and too simple, so Redstone was introduced, shortly after command blocks were then introduced, so the game was slowly developing further to meet what the players want. The updates that came out became more and more complex as the players began to understand more and build more complex worlds. New dimensions were even introduced such as; nether and the end. The new editions to the game shaped the way the players created their new structures and has impacted the way they play.
Minecraft has over 91 million monthly users according to business insider, before the release of Minecraft the target audience was most likely of the younger generations, (7-15), however after its release the target audience perhaps is non existent as Minecraft is just made for the laugh as opposed to a certain age group. As well as this Minecraft is unlikely to also have a target demographic as it is just aimed at people who may enjoy it.
