TV Drama Title Sequences

Image
TV Drama Title Sequences Sherlock- The music in the Sherlock title sequence is very crime scene modern day London, which suits the TV show, also there are no lyrics in the music, this suits the fast-paced editing of  location to location of the busy streets of London. The music seems to get more tense as the sequence goes on, especially right at the end, it build up tension for the audience and prepares them for the show. As the sequence goes on the images get more extreme and dangerous, for example; at the start, the images are of London streets and the London Eye, whereas later on, a gun and blood is shown, this foreshadows the episodes to come as they are full of crime and murder. The text of the Sherlock title is all in black, sophisticated and simple. The all black may have been chosen because it is a mysterious colour, no one sees past the darkness. The colour also has connotations of danger and detective, guns, magnifying glass, Sherlock's famous coat, they're all bla

Stranger Things- Representation of Age

Image
Stranger Things How is the representation of age constructed in the clip? In stranger things, age is stereotyped , the children are the innocent, vulnerable characters who end up the protagonists , the children are the main characters of the show, one child is in distress and needs help, and the other children try to help as the police struggle to find him. The teenager in these clips was typically in her room, on the phone, dating and then rudely slams the door in her brothers friends face. The teenager has a smaller role in the program than the kids, however, still has a main part, more so than some of the adults. The parents seem to be the 'kill joy' generation, the mother interrupts the campaign and disrupt the children's fun. The parents of the show do not have a significant role, (other than mikes mother and the sheriff) this may be because the show is based on children and as the generations get older the roles become less important to the show and the audience

News- The Political Landscape of Britain

Image
News- The Political Landscape of Britain The conservative party- Theresa May Government- The government in charge of negotiating Brexit is a strange mix of right-wing nationalism and centrists, 'compassionate conservatism'. The conservative party is made up of local associations which play a major role in the selection of candidates and the appointment of the party leader. This headline supports the conservative party because it is persuading the audience to vote for May which is in favour of the conservative party. UKIP- The Independence Party- This party has little in the way of policies, apart from Europe bashing. but is surprisingly popular with voters. In the 2015 election, UKIP obtained just one member of parliament, a sitting MP who had moved over from the conservatives. UKIP has several members in the European Parliament. This headlinte tells the audience that UKIP are on their way to triumph, to win the election. BNP (British National Party)- An extr

Mad Men, representation of gender

Image
Mad Men - How is the representation of gender constructed in the text? At the beginning of the clip, an establishing aerial shot  (birds eye view)  was being used, the director used this to show the the audience the traffic and busyness of the setting, which was clearly New York City, shown by the yellow taxi's, which were old fashioned, showing the time period the film was set in. Also at the beginning of the clip, the music was up beat and fast which may also show the audience the excessive amount of people rushing around, as there becomes less people, the music slightly slows down. Mise-en-scene  is used to show the costumes, cars and type writers which are all old fashioned, setting the era for the audience. A tracking shot is used mid way through the clip, watching the women walk across the office, this is to show how busy the office is, filled with women doing their low paid job working for the men. Shot-reverse-shot editing technique is used to show a conversation be

Male Gaze Theory- music video

Image
The Male Gaze Theory Music Video of my choice Katy Perry- Bon Appetit In this music video Katy Perry has a relationship with the males and females in the audience. She shows herself to be in control towards the men, empowering herself which inspires the women, and makes them feel like that is how they should be. I would say that this music video is more aimed at the women to try and empower them as they should take control instead of the men. However, this video still contains a significant amount of The Male Gaze, as Katy Perry is wearing very little clothing for the majority of the video and is presenting herself purposely in a sexual way. The clothing that she wears links with the lyrics of the video because it is mainly about giving herself away to the men for sex, even though she still feels in control. The audience could look at the singer in many ways, first of all, the feminists in the audience would most likely disagree with the way she presents herself and the way she int

The Male Gaze further research

The Male Gaze further research and 'The Female Gaze' Although sometimes described as the 'Male Gaze' Mulvey's concept is more accurately described as a heterosexual, masculine gaze. An example of the Male Gaze is, 'The postman always rings twice' (1946) which includes a famous amount of the Male Gaze. Theorist Jonathon Schroeder (1998) 'to gaze implies more than to look at - it signifies a psychological relationship of power, in which the gazer is superior to the object of the gaze' Some theorists have also noted the sexualizing of the female body even in situations where female sexiness has nothing to do with the product being advertised. The gaze can also be directed to members of the same gender for several reasons, not all being sexual, such as in comparison of body image or in clothing. The 'Female Gaze' The Female Gaze is a feminist theoretical term representing the gaze of the female viewer. It is a response to Laura Mulvey&#

Male Gaze- music video analysis

Image
Male Gaze- Music Video Analysis Laura Mulvey introduced the 'Male Gaze' in 1975, the concept of the gaze is one that deals with how an audience views the people presented. Laura Mulvey believes that in film, audiences have to 'view' characters from the perspective of a heterosexual male. For femenists the 'Male Gaze' can be thought of in 3 ways: 1. How men look at women 2. How women look at themselves 3. How women look at other women Some features of the Male Gaze include; The camera lingering on the curves of the female body. And women are relegated to the status of objects. The videos below all include the Male Gaze . Mise-en-scene is used, the setting and clothing items worn in the music videos are creating a mood and reflecting the emotional state of mind of the singer. Some of the videos use frontality, where the singers are directly looking at the camera , providing the feeling that they're looking straight at the viewer.   Video 1- Taylor

Daily Mail and The Guardian Teenager Stories

Image
Dail Mail Vs. The Guardian The Daily Mail The stories on teenagers in the Daily Mail are generally putting us in a bad light, ‘UK teens worst behaved in Europe’ this is a stereotypical headline assuming all teenagers are not well behaved. This shows to anyone who reads the daily mail that teenagers are all awfully behaved compared to the rest of the generations. It can be argued that the media does not help teenagers behave in a better way,  showing teenagers in this light is not helping anyone. the newspapers do not show the achievements teenagers make these days and therefore do not inspire others to make the same achievements. The media can be a bad influence on the younger generations as they are more influenced than the older generations. The more teenagers are shown in a bad light, the more it will encourage teenagers to behave that way. The newspapers talking about 'facing A level shock' and 'life and death calls answered by teenagers' these headli

TV Drama Trailer Review

Image
TV Drama Trailer Review Power: Power seems to be a good TV drama about a drug dealer who may try and turn his life around. They open a night club which seems to cause problems. The show looks like a good watch from the trailer, it seems to invite the viewer to watch more. This particular show seems to be aimed more at the older years maybe 15+ as there is strong language and scenes of a sexual nature.   90210: 90210 seems to also be aimed more at the older years (15+). Based in Hollywood, about some young people who go to High School who seem to have a fairly normal life of people falling in and out of love, with the extra drama on the side.
