statement of intent draft

For my dance music video I intend to use the song, 'In the name of love' by Bebe Rexha and Martin Garrix. I will be creating a narrative using the conventions of modern dance music, the lyrics also offer a narrative, helping my video ideas and the song fit well together. The song is suitable for the ideas I currently have regarding the video as the beat and the drops will fit with the shots I plan to take, showing that the song I chose was a suitable fit for my video ideas. I will show two different social groups through the two 17-year-old girls I have selected for the video. One of the girls shown to have a good, family orientated home life and the other with a lonely home life. The lyrics also allow me to create the narrative, and when the song seems to go soft I will use that as the 'argument' scene of the video, this will allow me to edit the video to keep the audience engaged. The relationship between the dancers in the video is interpreted by the audience. The da

Dance Music Video Analysis

Lullaby- Sigala, Paloma Faith This video follows many of the conventions of dance music videos, colourful, good vibes and generally on holiday or in a location that the audience would wish to be in themselves. Dance is involved in this video, more in the middle and towards the end of the video, The colours the main women is wearing is bright yellow, which have connotations of happiness and energy, which is evidently what dance makes you feel like. The idea of the sun coming through the blinds emphasizes the beauty of the place and works as a spotlight for the singer in the video, this natural lighting is used making it seem more realistic to the audience. Some of the camera shots used are mid shots, from the shoulders upwards, and may have been used to show the expressions on their face whilst singing the song, possibly linking with the lyrics. Additionally, some long shots are used of the full body, showing the dances being performed and the body language from the character. Bre

Comparison of Dance Music

Sigma- Nobody To Love Vs Tiesto- Red Lights Both videos are fairly similar as they have the same idea of locations, and the idea of male gaze. The camera focuses on the bodies of the women more so than the shot, using shots that were filmed from hip height. Which could arguably be seen to be objectifying women. Both videos target males and females, both for different reasons, the male audience would stereo-typically be drawn to the way women are presented in the way they look and dress, however, the video would appeal to women as they may feel a sense of admiration for their lives, the travelling and how good they look etc. Both videos are full of colour, used to add to add to the idea that they have good lives and they're enjoying themselves with the little money they have, possibly implying that money is not needed to have a good time.

History of Dance Music

In the 60s, a US soul singer James Brown developed a new style of music, Funk. Disco Music: By the 70s, nightclubs were called discos, and they employed DJs to play dance tracks as it was much cheaper than hiring a band to play. At first, they played up-tempo soul tracks, however as time moved on tracks with a new rhythm that were easier to dance to were played instead. This new music had a four-on-the-floor bass drum beat with hi-hat on the offbeats. These songs were soon being played all around the world in disco's, soon after the genre of disco music was created. House Music: The house music genre was a new style of disco music and was originally played in gay clubs of New York and Chicago. Just like disco, house songs had catchy melodies with lyrics about going out and having fun. They also have a four-on-the-floor disco rhythm. However, in house music, drum machines and synthesizers were often used instead of drum kits and other instruments.  Techno Music: Techno
